Bhojan (Food) Grid
Logistics tracking system ensuring transparent meal distribution for "Feeding India.
2021 - 2022
Project Overview
Bhojan Grid is a logistics tracking system developed to support food distribution transparency for Zomato’s "Feeding India" project. Leveraging advanced technologies, the system facilitated the real-time tracking of meal deliveries, ensuring the distribution of 50,000 meals across Maharashtra, delivering 500 meals per day for four months. The backend infrastructure was built using Firebase, while the real-time tracking was achieved through the integration of the Google Distance Matrix API and Google Maps API. This system enabled NGOs and food distribution networks to optimize routes, minimize delays, and track deliveries with precision. Bhojan Grid’s impact was recognized by the Cabinet Minister of India for its role in enhancing food security and fulfilling corporate social responsibility goals.
The Problem
The challenge of managing large-scale meal distribution projects, such as "Feeding India," lies in ensuring transparency, minimizing delays, and effectively managing the logistics of delivering meals across vast regions. Without real-time tracking systems, there was a risk of inefficiency, loss, and the inability to accurately report the number of meals delivered. NGOs and corporate partners like Zomato required a reliable system to monitor deliveries in real-time and ensure that every meal reached its intended recipient.
The Solution
Bhojan Grid addressed these logistical challenges by integrating advanced technologies like the Google Distance Matrix API for real-time route optimization and Firebase for seamless backend data management. The system tracked each meal delivery, ensuring transparency in the distribution process. The use of APIs allowed for precise, real-time updates on delivery status, while Firebase provided robust backend support to store, manage, and analyze delivery data. This not only streamlined the meal delivery process but also ensured Zomato could meet its social responsibility commitments effectively. The system's success in distributing 50,000 meals earned recognition from the Cabinet Minister of India, further validating its impact.
